چکیده

A 95 days experiment was conducted to observe the growth performance of giant fresh water prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) replacing fishmeal protein by dietary soybean meal in ten earthen mini ponds (50 m2), at Khulna University campus . Five experimental diets containing 25% as Control, Diet 1, 2, 3 and 4 were used. In 36% used a sole source prepared substituting with 30, 40, 50, 80% respectively. Juvenile shrimps collected from local vendors having 1.7 g average weight stocked density m-2. Water soil quality monitored regularly found within acceptable range. The prawns fed twice daily satiations serving feeding trays. highest gain (23.89 ± 5.29 g) lowest 2 (17.68 1.09), although no significant difference (p>0.05) observed among treatment FCR (1.09) SGR (2.60) PER (3.43) achieved that showed (p<0.05) Control. Survival rate D1, D2, D3 D4 71%, 83%, 95%, 95% 86% Among all treatments better 4.

TBT Effects on the Development of Intersex (Ovotestis) in Female Fresh Water Prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii

The impact of tributyltin (TBT) on the female gonad and the endocrine system in Macrobrachium rosenbergii was studied. Prawns were exposed to environmentally realistic concentrations of 10, 100, and 1000 ng/L of TBT for 6 months. Dose dependent effects were noticed in TBT exposed prawns. At 1000 ng/L TBT caused ovotestis formation (formation of male germ cells in ovary). Presence immature oocyt...

Pathogenicity of Aeromonas hydrophila in giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii, cultured in East Malaysia

Aeromonas infections are becoming a major risk factor in commercial aquaculture and it has been reported that a wide variety of fish and shellfish species are susceptible to this infection. In this study, 3 isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila were isolated from giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) cultured in Kuala Pilah Simbilan Nigri in East Malaysia. Conventional and rapid identif...

Use of Brewer’s Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as Growth Promoter in Giant Freshwater Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii de Man) Post Larvae

A feeding trial was conducted for 75 days to study the effects of live brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on growth and body composition in post larvae of the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man). Five diets were formulated containing optimum protein level of 35.24±0.04. These experimental feeds were supplemented with 0.0% (control diet), 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.5% and 1.0% l...

Effects of an organophosphorus insecticide, trichlorfon, on hematological parameters of the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man)

Hemolymph osmolality, ion concentration, acid–base balance, and immune parameters in Macrobrachium rosenbergii (15–20 g) were measured after 8 days of exposure to 0–0.3 mg l 1 trichlorfon. A significant depression in hemolymph osmolality and Cl 1 contents were observed with exposure to 0.3 mg l 1 trichlorfon. Similarly, hemolymph pH, HCO3 , and TCO2 decreased significantly when prawns were expo...

Vitellogenesis during the ovarian development in freshwater female prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man)

In the present investigation, vitellogenesis during ovarian development in the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii was assessed. Ovarian development was classified into five stages based on size, colour and texture of ovary. Interestingly, histological results clearly indicate that the oocyte development gradually increased from stages I to V based on the yolk material accumulation. Besi...
